Grid Zine Fest is an annual zine festival in Salt Lake City. Any given year, between 60 and 80 zine makers from across the country table at our annual festival in the mountain west city we all call home. Whether you have been making zines for 30 years, or made your first one last week; have an MFA or doodle in the margins, there is a table for you to share what you make at Grid Zine Fest.
Safer Spaces
Grid Zine Festival is a safer space, which means we strive to create an environment in which all community members feel welcomed and can participate and connect. Grid Zine Festival will not tolerate racism, queerphobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, fatphobia/sizeism, classism, threats of violence, or other hate speech. No TERFs; Free Palestine.
Land Acknowledgement
Grid Zine Fest takes place in so-called Salt Lake City, which exists on Ute and Shoshone territories in Utah, in which Goshute, Paiute, and Diné peoples also have territories. We honor the land and those who have stewarded the land, even in the face of systemic adversity. We all live on stolen land.
Accessibility
Grid Zine Fest is dedicated to keeping our community safe. Our venue will always be ADA accessible and with gender neutral bathrooms.
The sound in our venue can get loud, especially with so many people talking and the echo from the vaulted ceilings of the venue. We recommend and welcome ear protection if you are sensitive to sound.
To accommodate as many zine tablers as possible in the venue, everyone will be seated close, similar to other years. We will keep the aisles as wide as possible to allow easy movement for any mobility aids.
The organizers are always monitoring respiratory illness rates for Salt Lake and surrounding counties – as of right now, levels are low. We always encourage masking and testing prior to attending our events and will have masks freely available during the fest. The WHO Airborne Risk Indoor Assessment for our venue ranges from >1% risk if you wear a mask or maintain six feet distance from all participants, to 22% in a worse-case scenario of high local infection levels, high temperature and humidity, and the venue at maximum capacity with many infected people among them.
